Magical Musings: April Showers Bring...me finally sitting down for an hour to write this
Let's play catch up!
Magical Musings is the monthly life update: quick hits, current obsessions, and what’s brewing behind the scenes.
Mentally I’m Here is a curious publication of consciousness, the intersection of science and spirituality, storytelling and the magic of living. Everything here is free and meant to be shared. If you’d like to help me bring the vibes, “sMaSh tHaT sUbScRiBe bUttOn!!!” (Or don’t. You can do whatever you want.)
🫶IT’S BEEN 84 YEARS!
I’m back for one of my favorite series to write for Mentally I’m Here, which is this (*visualize sweeping animated gesture and twinkling sound effects*), Magical Musings, where I speak fluent nonsense, probably drop some memes/outfit photos/Here Culture, and tell you what I’ve been up to.
If you missed my last update, it’s evergreen because honestly, I just find MM not only amusing to write but amusing to read. So if you need a chuckle, check out the last one here (also if you want to peep how my 2025 went according to ChatGPT 👀)
BUT HI! I have a handful of new subscribers, so let me pause for just a moment to thank you. Sometimes it really does feel like I’m Rocky floating out in the endless void, looking for signs of life, so when someone stumbles upon this little weird & woo(w) thing I’ve built here, I pretty much do this:
If we were ever stuck in the vacuous empty black hole of space one day, I’d softball messages from my ship to yours and try to communicate so we could be friends.
Which is to say, thanks for being here.
✨ Outfit of the Month (OOTM)
It’s giving “90s grunge and boho had a baby,” and now she’s headed off to college for her first existential crisis. But, you know, she’s got her 5th generation iPod, leopard headband and feels cute, so she’ll be ok. She’s got those procrastinate-and-write-the-5-page-essay-the-night-before genes, so she’s got college on lock. Might be a future author. Or a Gemini sun with a libra rising. Maybe both.
👩🏻💻Life Updates
April (and March) have been heavy “construction/structure” energy (ie. in my Bob the Builder era). I've legitimized my business, Tempest Studio, which involved doing all those super boring but necessary things required when one starts a business like opening bank accounts, filing documents with the state, and generally paying institutions overpriced “fees” in exchange for a piece of paper that says, with Pinocchio-level enthusiasm, “I'm a REAL business!”
I’ve worn so many hats in the past few weeks that I get it when people say being a business owner isn’t for the faint of heart—though one could also argue that just from a trying-to-write-as-a-career standpoint too.
If all the world’s a stage, then we’re literally also the entire cast (& sometimes our own audience too, if few people know our work exists). Which is to say, I’ve added accountant/bookkeeper, customer service, IT computer wizard, web designer, graphic designer, and marketing exec to my resume, in addition to writer, publisher, and delightfully lovable weirdo.
It’s actually been a bit of a confidence-builder too, because it’s forced me to acquire new skills, as well as polish some old ones (organization, multitasking, managing all the tiny details—Virgo south node ACTIVATED!!!). Just gonna drop this here and show off my handiwork (click if you want to see the whole thing).
But now that the scaffolding is there, I have more time to devote to shenanigans. I’ve been a bit shenanigans-deprived lately. Less fighting with coding & building websites and more fun, please. Here’s to hoping the summer finds me adding “Shenanigician” to my resume.
📸 Here Culture
Don’t know wtf Here Culture is? This article is Clarissa and explains it all, but it’s a term I coined in favor of sharing more in-the-moment photos; the ones actually saturating our camera rolls but rarely posted on social media feeds (though stories are fertile ground): the flower we spotted on our walk, the 18 coffees we drank in a given week, the books we read, the little-big joys we notice throughout the days/weeks/months.
Here’s April, which is—unsurprisingly—Chick-fil-A, books and heavy on the coffee.
🪄 Currently Consuming
Currently Reading: Well…read (past tense). Since drafting this, I’ve finished three books: The Spell Shop by Sarah Beth Durst (cozy romantasy—3.5 stars; I’m deducting half a star for the ending), A Rebellion of Care: Poems and Essays by David Gate (no descriptor needed—4 stars), and You Are a Channel by Sara Landon (mediumship/new age spirituality—2 stars. It fell flat for me and felt repetitive and like a book of testimonials as a veiled pitch for her course. Womp womp).

Currently Watching: Just binged season 4 of Love on the Spectrum. It’s such a feel-good show about finding love, without the BS inflated fake drama. Just real people, being their adorable selves, that get us all rooting for them. Also saw Project Hail Mary recently and highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it. I was pleasantly surprised and found it to be a breath of fresh air with a great message, rather than the regurgitated junk Hollywood usually releases.
Currently Listening To: The Astrolotea with Aliza Kelly podcast and taking a fine tooth comb to my natal chart (peeping when the chaos will cease and some joy and opportunities will be heading my way).
🔮 Already Cast, Still Buzzing
This is the part where I act as my own hype woman and replay some of my greatest (or missed) hits, because if I don’t, who will?
A humanitarian piece (urging us to remember our own) written in November 2023 that’s probably even more relevant now and totally worth the read:
Episode 53 of my podcast Ink Speak where I breakdown how failure is actually success and ask some thought-provoking questions to help you redefine them both.
🏅 Meme of the Month
Because why have 1 meme when you can have 12 astrology-themed ones? What’s your zodiac meme—and more importantly, is it accurate? 👀
Other places to call me, beep me (50 points to Gryffindor if you get that reference):
